It’s been forever since my last blog post. Between editing Soul Crystals: The Mask of Tragedy and writing Soul Crystals 3, I have not had a ton of time on my hands. I’m going to be doing something different today and provide some background on myself rather than just the Soul Crystals series.
Anyway, I posted an article a few years ago about the anime influences on the Soul Crystals series. You probably guessed that I am an absolutely huge anime fan. I don’t think it’s an exaggeration to say that I’ve watched about a hundred series all costing me only a social life.
I made a list of series I like the most. It has the shows I can confidently rank as my favorites as well as some honorable mentions that I just can’t decide where they fit in. I’m also grouping together franchises with multiple series on some of these while singling out individual shows on others. Whatever, it’s my list, and I can do what I want. My disclaimer is that I never claimed to have good taste.
- Naruto franchise (Naruto; Naruto Shippuden)
- Bleach
- Guilty Crown
- Gintama (all series, I’m not going to list them all)
- Dragon Ball Z (yeah, just this one out of the franchise)
- Fairy Tail (technically 3 series marked by dates, but I’m not going to do that)
- Gundam 00
After that point, I’m not quite sure what comes next. Here’s just a bunch of series that I like enough to be considered for the next few spots. These are in any order.

Darker than Black (Darker than Black; Darker than Black: Gaiden; Darker than Black 2: Gemini of the Meteor)
B: The Beginning (just watching season 2 now, so this is season 1 only)

So, what do you think? How bad are my tastes? What should I rank next? These are just anime series. I’m not even sure how to make a list of all the anime movies I’ve seen. Or, should I just tick everyone off and write about which anime I don’t like.
