I made up a lot of words for the Soul Crystals series to explain its supernatural elements. Here’s a sort of glossary.
Amulus (plural: Amuli): Superhumans with the ability to manipulate their internal energy (anima). They have strength, durability, speed, reflexes, and mental processing power well beyond an ordinary human.
Anima: an eternal energy source found in all living things. Amuli are able to manifest it outside of their bodies. A depletion of anima can result in a loss of consciousness.
A.I.M. (Amulus International Medicine): A global organization sanctioned by the United Nations and most of the world’s governments. Their directive is to study Amuli and their ability to advance scientific and medical fields.
A.R.C. (Amulus Regional Containment): A global organization sanctioned by the United Nations and most of the world’s governments. Their directive is to capture and contain rogue Amuli who pose a danger to human life.
Hunters (with a capital “H”): An umbrella term for anti-Amuli terrorist organizations. Beliefs among the groups vary. They are typically convinced that Amuli pose a danger to the rest of humanity. They are extremely distrustful of A.R.C. and A.I.M. along with their mysterious methods.
Anima crystal: A catalyst that draws out an Amulus’s power. Only one crystal may be bonded to one Amulus. The bond inseparable no matter the distance. When an anima crystal finds its chosen person, that person changes from ordinary human to Amulus. Thought to be unbreakable. Typically fixed to a weapon or piece of jewelry. Come in shades of green, blue, red, purple, and (rarely) gold.
Anima weapon: A weapon embedded with an anima crystal, giving it special powers and making it virtually indestructible. The crystal and weapon were combined by unknown craftsmen. The process for transfixing an anima crystal to a weapon was lost sometime during the mid-1800’s. All anima weapons are dated before that time, going back to some of mankind’s earliest civilizations across all continents.
Anima jewelry: A piece jewelry (typically metal) embedded with an anima crystal. The crystal and weapon were combined by unknown craftsmen. The process for transfixing an anima crystal to a weapon was lost sometime during the mid-1800’s. All anima jewelry pieces are dated before that time, going back to some of mankind’s earliest civilizations across all continents.
Warrior: An Amulus bonded with an anima weapon. They are typically stronger than the other group of Amuli (Psychics).
Psychic: An Amulus bonded with a piece of anima jewelry. They are usually physically weaker than a Warrior. However, they have the ability to use one-to-one mental telepathy, making them vital for intelligence purposes.
Alpha Amulus: A rumored type of Amulus with mysterious powers beyond that of an ordinary Amulus. All Amuli have the same amount of anima, except for this mythical figure.
